We spent the last two weeks adding in our arenas, replacing a few UI elements, and making sure things work correctly. Our 5 initial arenas are all in, and playing in each one of them feels different, which is exactly what we’re going for. With that, we can show our first gameplay video. It’s not much, and it’s in single player, but it’s the first of many.
We’ve also added VFX to our 4 characters’ skills. We used an asset from the asset store for these. In the future, our VFX will be handled by a VFX artist.
With the arenas and VFX in place, all that remained was a quick SFX pass, courtesy of freesound.org, and my amateurish Adobe Audition mixing skills 😊, and an update to the prototype’s question database. We’ll be testing with 4319 personalized questions, but we’ve written more than 8000, and we’ll be writing a whole lot more!
Our game will now be subjected to a trial by fire, in the hands of several 8-year-olds.
After our tests, we will be implementing AWS server connections so we don’t have to fire up a server manually for people to test the game in multiplayer.
See ya in two weeks, with more videos.
