These last two weeks our art team has wrapped up character design and has begun to shift focus to our arenas. With work completed on the 3d models of our 4 initial Unis: Eslan, Turbow, Brand and Barda, we can’t wait to see these four playing a match together. They’re now in the process of being animated by our newest addition to the team: Felipe Gomes.
Felipe’s a passionate dude who’s been using a fairly new program to animate our characters: Cascadeur. Cascadeur uses AI to simulate physics, and makes animating humanoid characters a much simpler endeavor. It’s free to use, too. Felipe still uses Blender, in conjunction with Cascadeur, but it’s clear to all of us, that Cascadeur is an incredible new tool that all animators should use.
Here’s a peek at Brand’s sliding tackle animation:
There are no yellow or red cards in UniKaos!
Now, let me introduce Barda. Barda’s a crystal lifeform (these have been theorized to exist), and it doesn’t feel anything, because it doesn’t have the feelings or the needs that we, puny organics have. It doesn’t need to eat, it doesn’t get tired, it doesn’t feel love or hate. But now it’s starting to, because something’s infected its body and is turning it into an organic lifeform. It will be the player’s decision to either let the infection continue or to treat it.
I don’t have to sleep. I don’t have to eat. I don’t have to breathe. I don’t feel pain. I don’t feel anything. I can run for years and never have to stop. I don’t know what loss is because my species is immortal. Our cells don’t degenerate. Our cells aren't cells at all. Being a silicon lifeform is far better than the meaty creatures that carbon produces. So why is this happening to me? Why in the universe is my arm turning “biological”? What is happening to me?!
Purple’s the coolest slime color
Barda’s passionate about sports. He just wants to slide tackle and kick the ball, really hard.
Following up on our last development update, we have completed the initial implementation of the mid-match messaging system. This gives players the chance to fire off a quick pre-made message from the mini menu (shown expanded in the screenshot above). Whether coordinating the plan of attack with teammates or congratulating an opponent for an awesome goal, we’ve got you covered!

Shorter post today, I know. I expect our next one to be short as well, as we’re now tackling (sports puns are always intended) a much bigger task. That said, you’ll hear from us regardless!
See you in a couple of weeks!
